YOUR INSTALLATION PLAN

A checklist you can come back to.

Developer’s Xbox download ↗
  1. Check your console

Use an Xbox Series X or S. The public package excludes Xbox One. Package support for Series S does not verify any particular game.

  2. Prepare Developer Mode

Follow Microsoft’s Xbox Dev Mode activation instructions, then switch into Dev Home. Check current account requirements with Microsoft.

  3. Get the developer’s Xbox package

On a PC, open the Cosmo/KytyPS5 releases page and unzip an Xbox build. Keep its .msix and Dependencies together.

    Source instructions ↗
  4. Install through Device Portal

Open the portal address shown in Dev Home. Under Add, select the .msix and both dependency packages, then install.

    Source instructions ↗
  5. Set the app type to Game

In Dev Home, set KytyPS5’s type to Game to use the larger app memory budget.

    Source instructions ↗
  6. Prepare your game folder

Use an NTFS USB drive as Media. Follow the developer’s folder-access instructions and add your legally obtained game folders or .zar archives. Back up the drive before any formatting.

    Source instructions ↗
  7. Add the folder and rescan

Add the folder in the app settings, then press Y to scan again. A folder-based game needs eboot.bin; the UWP scanner checks up to two levels deep.

  8. Record a first test

Start one game. Record the Xbox model, emulator build, game build and stage reached. Use the overlay for observations; a successful boot alone is not a playability test.

03 / TROUBLESHOOTING

Find the next useful check.

Installation failed

Check the package before retrying.

  1. Confirm Series X|S and Developer Mode; Xbox One is excluded by this package.
  2. Use the Xbox archive from the developer’s releases, not a desktop build.
  3. In Device Portal → Add, include the .msix and both dependency packages.

Games not appearing

Work through discovery and folder access.

  1. Check that the USB drive is NTFS and connected as Media.
  2. Follow the developer’s UWP folder-access instructions. Grant access only to your chosen game folder.
  3. Add the folder in settings, check for eboot.bin or a supported .zar archive, then press Y to rescan.

Black screen or crash

Separate a game failure from a screenshot issue.

  1. Check the app type is Game and compare your exact build with the release notes.
  2. The 19 October 11:38 UTC release asks users to remove compiled shaders once after updating. Follow the note for your installed version.
  3. The 19 October 18:08 UTC update fixes black screenshot files. That fix does not establish that a game’s black screen is resolved.
  4. Record the build, game and failure stage. Check the documented renderer limits; desktop results do not verify Xbox behavior.

Low FPS or stutter

Measure the run before changing settings.

  1. Enable the performance overlay to inspect frame time, app RAM and swap activity.
  2. Check the Memory and quality settings documented by the developer. Change one option at a time and compare the same scene.
  3. Keep the console model and build in every result. Neither a desktop FPS figure nor a different console is a reliable prediction.
